MATRA (Mécanique Aviation Traction), a French armaments and aerospace company, was supported by the de Gaulle government, which aimed to dominate the motorsports world, and started racing in the mid-1960s in the newly established automobile division. MATRA started participating in F1 in 1967, and in 1968, the "MS10" equipped with a Ford DFV engine won three races. That year, a pure works team that was "all French" entered the Grand Prix with the "MS11", separate from the semi-works team that had the MS10.
Many of the parts of the MS11 were made in France, and the MATRA V12 engine in particular was a 60-degree V12 DOHC 4-valve engine that was compact and lightweight, comparable to the V8 engines of the time, yet delivered a high power output of 420 HP.
The driver of the MS11 was Jean-Pierre Beltoise, a Frenchman who had been a member of the MATRA team since the F3 era. The MS11 he drove finished second in the fifth race, the Dutch GP, marking the first podium for both him and the car. Although it did not match the Grand Prix results of the MS10 at the same time, the MS11, equipped with the distinctive sound of the MATRA V12 engine and fighting for a French victory, is one of the cars that will be etched in Grand Prix history.

The MATRA (Mécanique Aviation Traction) company, one of the French company focus on aeronautics and weaponry development in the 20th century, entered the motorsports racing society in mid-1960s, with the support of the Charles de Gaulle administration with a newly established automobile subsidiary.
They joined F1 starting from 1967, and the MS10 provided to the satellite team won 3 champions in the 1968 season with the Ford DFV engine. At the same year, other than the satellite team , they rolled out the MS11 for the all-French factory-backed team.
Many of the parts which constructing the MS11 are made in France, and the MATRA V12 engine with 12 60 degrees V-cylinder and DOHC4 valves , generating 420 horsepower that as powerful as the V8 engines at that time but lighter and more compact.
The driver of the MS11, Jean-Pierre Beltoise, the French who raced under MATRA The team started from F3 racing. He finished as the first runner up in the Dutch GP, and stood at the victory stand for the first time.
The results of the MS11 may be less shiny than the MS10 at the same season, however, with the unique engine sound of the MATRA V12 engine, and with their "made in France, win for France" spirit, the MS11 should remain in the Grand Prix history.
